General and Preventative Dentistry

Your dental health is vital to your general well being. Our doctors focus on preventive dental care. Early diagnosis and treatment allows for more conservative treatment plans and reduces the risk of needing more complex and expensive treatment. Comprehensive dentistry involves the diagnosis and treatment of general conditions affecting the teeth, gums, and jaw. Haight Street Dental doctors value patient input and informed treatment planning.

Preventive services and products available in our office include:

  • Routine cleanings
  • Comprehensive and routine oral examinations
  • Oral cancer screening

  • Computer-assisted periodontal charting
  • Dental sealants
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Digital (low exposure) X-rays
  • Sonicare® electric toothbrushes
  • Night guards
  • Athletic mouth guards

Diagnostics and X-rays

Haight Street Dental uses digital technology to take our X-rays. We have the capability to take both simple intraoral X-rays, which are taken inside the mouth, and extra-oral X-rays, including panoramic images. Panoramic X-rays enable us to diagnose a much wider variety of dental pathology than intraoral X-rays can. For some conditions, this is the only way to see what is really happening.

Oral cancer screenings

Screening for early changes in the oral tissue can help detect abnormality in early stages when it can be more successfully treated. Smoking, especially combined with heavy alcohol consumption (30 drinks a week or more), is a primary risk factor for oral cancer. This combination is estimated to be the most likely trigger in about 75 percent of oral cancers diagnosed in this country. During a dental exam, our doctor will check your neck and oral tissues for lumps, red or white patches or recurring sore areas. Biopsy, the excision sampling of tissue may be sent to oral pathology laboratories, such as UCSF and UOP dental labs

Restorative Dentistry

Teeth are lost for many reasons including; gum disease, decay,  injury, medical and congenital problems, and normal wear and usage. Missing teeth have an immediate negative impact on one’s quality of life and general health. Haight Street Dental offers dental treatments for the restoration of dental function and replacement of teeth, from simple fillings to veneers, ceramic crowns, dental implants, and implant retained dentures.
